Anne Lister, of Shelden Hall in Halifax, was a landowner, industrialist, explorer and diarist and sometimes described as the first modern day lesbian. The recent BBC TV Series Gentleman Jack brought Anne's fascinating story to wider audience

Taking just a small portion of the several thousand pages of diary Anne left behind, we are offered a peek into early 19th c York. Explore the streets of York and immerse yourself further into the city Anne regulary visited and loved. We will see where Anne's friends lived,  where she visited, what inspired her, where she worshipped, where she went to school, where she shopped, partied, had her hair done and even had her teeth cleaned! We will be transported by quotes from Anne's diary to learn more about this fascinating woman.

Tours run on the last Sunday of every month (with an extra one on Easter Sunday). They begin at Micklegate Bar at 10.30am and last about 2.5 hours.
