A Pocket Park for College Green
College Green will be transformed into a pocket park, according to plans released this week.
The redevelopment of Goodramgate's Minster Yard area aims to provide “a multifunctional and accessible open green space for all, encouraging users to spend more time there year-round”.
New seating and stepping stones will be installed, as well as landscaping. The following are some of the plan's most important elements:
The removal and replacement of several trees "that make it feel dark and crowded"
The preservation of the open lawn area to allow pop-up events
The addition of wildlife-friendly plants
The installation of a variety of “high-quality seating and resting opportunities that cater for all ages and ability needs”.
Since the pandemic, the York BID has collaborated with the Minster Dean and Chapter to host a pop-up food and beverage area on College Green. This meant that even when Covid restrictions were in effect, customers were able to enjoy meals and drinks from city-centre businesses.
With the cooperation of the Minster, the BID has commissioned these proposals for a lasting renovation to the area.
The plans for College Green aims to revitalise the area while also supporting local businesses.
